BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Jordan Galvarino is an internationally acclaimed cellist and educator. He has performed across Canada, Europe, and the United States in prestigious venues like the New World Center and New York City's the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. Jordan has maintained a diverse career as arts administrator, chamber musician, educator, and orchestra musician.
An avid music educator, Jordan incorporates concepts of body awareness, technical effectiveness, and musical passion into lessons with his students. He is a published scholar of EMG research regarding left-arm cello pedagogy and continues to develop and implement his research in order to help musicians have healthy and long-term careers in music. His own students have flourished as successful performers and educators in the field. They have also been accepted to study at prestigious music institutes such as the Mannes School of Music, Florida State University, Columbus State University, and others. In addition, they perform at summer music programs such as the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival. Jordan taught lessons, directed string ensembles, and assisted in various administrative duties on the staff of the University of South Carolina String Project. He previously served as a faculty member at colleges and universities in Florida, Georgia, Oklahoma, and is a faculty alumnus of the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. He currently serves as Co-Artistic Director and Artist Faculty for Cello at the Emerald Coast Chamber Music Festival, where he has worked with students from leading music institutions across Australia, Canada, Mexico, Honduras, and the United States.
Jordan has performed with many symphony orchestras along the American East Coast and Southwest. He made his solo debut
with the period ensemble Columbia Baroque, and has since performed as a soloist with the Panama City Symphony Orchestra and the OKC Sinfonia. Jordan is an active member of Sinfonia Gulf Coast, where he has performed as both guest Principal and Assistant Principal Cello. He has also served as Acting Principal Cello of the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, Principal Cello for the Scotia Festival Orchestra, where he collaborated with members of Symphony Nova Scotia and the Quebec Symphony Orchestra, and for the Music Academy International Festival Orchestra.
An active chamber musician, Jordan is a founding member of the Velox Quartett, which was featured as a part of Scotia Festival of Music’s Highlight Concert Series. His professional chamber performances have included collaborations with Masumi Per Rostad, Joe Philips, Gregory Sauer, and Shannon Thomas. He was awarded 1st prize in the Chamber Music Division of the IMKA International Music Competition and was a prizewinner at the Duxbury Music Festival’s solo and chamber competitions. Jordan studied the art of chamber collaboration with members of the Emerson, Badke, Brentano, and Calidore String Quartets. In 2018, he was an Artist-In-Residence at the Atlantic Music Festival, where he was awarded a Contemporary Ensemble Fellowship and collaborated for the premiere of twenty-five new chamber compositions.
Coming from an Argentine American background, Jordan Galvarino was brought up in Greenville and Spartanburg, South Carolina. He earned doctoral and master's degrees in String Performance from the Florida State University, a Professional Performance Certificate from the Pennsylvania State University, and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. His principal teachers have included Paul Buyer, Robert Jesselson, Kim Cook, and Gregory Sauer.
